LAST WEEK WE GOT DOWN ON THE FARM! :)
We had so much fun with our farm unit! We did fun math and literacy activities centered around the farm animal theme and read lots of non-fiction material about farm animals. We learned that different farm animals give us different things.. like cows give us milk which we use to make butter, cheese, and ice cream! In celebration of cows everywhere, we listened to some country music and made butter in our classroom! We sat in a circle and passed around a jar of heavy cream that we shook in order to churn it into butter. It was so much fun and very tasty!
We also read a book called Cook-a-Doodle-Doo. This story is very similar to the story of The Little Red Hen. However the main character in this book is a rooster who wants to make strawberry shortcake instead of a hen who wants to make bread. The children loved the story and had so much fun making their own strawberry shortcakes afterwards.. yum! Then for kid-writing, we started a how-to writing piece on How-To Make Strawberry Shortcake!
HERE IS THE BOOK WE READ TOGETHER:
FIRST YOU GET A SHORTCAKE....
NEXT, YOU PUT STRAWBERRIES ON TOP OF THE SHORTCAKE...
THEN, YOU PUT SOME WHIPPED CREAM ON TOP...
LAST, YOU EAT YOUR YUMMY STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!!
INSECTS AND ARACHNIDS OH MY!
